Q: What other dog looks like a Rottweiler puppy?
Me and my husband just got a Rottweiler. He is 6 weeks old... I was a little skeptical about getting a Rottweiler because I was always taught that Rottweilers are vicious dogs. Mine is not that bad, and he likes to bite...but he is just a baby. Well my mom is coming to visit me in a few days, and she would absolutely go crazy if I told her that my puppy is a Rottweiler, so I was wondering what other dogs look like Rottweilers when they are puppies.

I wouldn't tell her about his breed right away. Let her interact with the puppy first. This is what I had my dad do when I got a breed he thought he absolutely hated. He warmed up to my pup and then I told him what she was. Rotties have pretty distinctive markings that will be hard to hide from someone who knows what they look like. Dobermans do have the same markings (different body style) so you could probably pass the pup off as one of those. Good luck!

Beaucerons and Hovawarts resemble Rottweilers the most. You could say it’s one of those.

First off I have got to say that I absolutely love Rotty's. I grew up with TONS of different breeds of dogs, and I have worked at a vet for 5 years. I swear that I have seen more small dogs bite, growl, and hurt people than large breeds. I am a firm believer that there is no such thing as a bad "breed" of dog. I DO however think that some breeds have a better chance to be aggressive if the owner is lazy. If you KNOW how to handle your animal, and you understand that there are different ways to train different tempered breeds….then you will be just fine!! :).
As to your question though, I have a puppy that I got at the shelter who is ADORABLE!! She is a mix between a Black Lab, and a German Shepard and I swear….There is NO DIFFERENCE between her and a rottweiler PUPPY. If you are that concerned with your mother, just tell her that it is a mix breed. Mix puppies can look like ANYTHING!! :) lol…so there shouldn't be any argument. Anyways, take care and I hope that everything goes great!! Remember, just keep up a good attitude and don't let anyone tell you that your dogs "breed" is wrong to own.!! You know better.. :)

A Bernese( spelling may be wrong) Mountain Dog looks like a Rottweiler but has longer hair as an adult. But as for the rottie, I would just tell your mom its a rottie. When I was growing up i had a Rottie, It was the biggest baby ever. He would sit on my lap, follow me everywhere and would cry when I left the room if he couldn't follow me. Just treat him with respect and he will do the same.
As for the biting try freezing a wet washcloth ( wet it, roll it into a log, put it in a baggie and freeze it). Give it to him when he's biting a lot, it makes teething easier and he will leave your fingers, furniture, etc. alone.

Do not let any puppy bite you. Replace your skin with a toy. Don’t verbally correct, just happily replace. They learn fast if you use every interaction as a training opportunity. I grew up around rotten becuz my grandparents raised them. Theirs had awesome personalities and their pups were always spoken for before they were born due to waiting lists. I believe personalities are just as hereditary as other traits. So meet the parents. Instead of lying, why not educate your parents about the breed? Do you and your new pup a favor and make training classes a priority. They aren’t that expensive and if your pup isn’t worth several hours a week…. Well, it is. It’s much easier to train your pup right than try to fix a bad habit. I think rotties are wonderful. But I’ve never met a breed I don’t like. I just prefer some over others.

Rotties are great family dogs!! They are a handleful though and need lots of training. Don't let him get away with bitting hands though, it is easier to fix now then when he weighs 70+lbs. Get good advice on training this kind of dog and follow through. Tell her he is a mutt, and if she ever figures it out she will see one of the best behaved dogs she has met. Rotties get vicious do to lack of training, poor socalization, and boredom. You could always say he is a Pit Bull lol. If you don't get his ears and tail docked no one will know what kind of dog he is and the mutt ploy will hold. If he has floppy ears tell her he is part Lab.
