Q: What is the best test to tell if your dog is a purebred pit bull? Is there a bloodline test to see if your pit bull is full-blooded?

DNA testing is the best way to find out for sure you can learn more about that by calling American Dog Breeders Association (801) 936-7513, visiting the ADBA website https://adbadog.com/ and e-mailing them or writing them by mail ADBA p.o. box 1771 Salt Lake City, UT 84110.
They'll help get you in the right direction for DNA profiling it will probably cost you around 100 bucks.

You bought him from a reputable breeder and you have the registration papers and pedigree.
That's the best test.

Give your dog a red ball to play with, if it tears it to pieces and looks like it is out of control in a rage it's probably a Pit Bull. It will not be purebred though as Pitbulls are just mongrels bred to be as vicious as possible.
There is a reason these dogs have been banned and destroyed in most of the civilized countries of the world and I look forward to the day the US follows suit. Don't try and tell me how they are" so sweet and misunderstood" when all the evidence says otherwise.

You're so ignorant, your research is wrong. Pit bulls are one of the best dogs and are sweet, great around kids to destroy them is cruel I'm in the USA but ain’t nobody taking my pits away. Dealing with pits for 30 years, never a problem out of one. Any dog can be made to fight not just pit bulls. Quit being scared I would die before anyone would take my pits.

You make very ignorant comments about a breed you have no clue about. I own a purebred American Pit Bull Terrier and she is very loving, gentle, and loyal. I have seen dogs that are much smaller, that are more violent or aggressive than her.
If you started hearing about all the kids bitten by Chihuahuas or Cairn Terriers, you probably would think they were vicious as well. But, you won't because a baby's face getting bitten up by Pomeranian isn't newsworthy. Dogs are like mirrors. They are a reflection of their owners. Think about that before you write off a breed.

People are so ignorant. I own 2 full-blooded pitbulls myself, one female and one male. Anyone she comes in contact with, she will lay on her back waiting for a belly rub! Not mean bone in her body- now don't get me wrong, when it comes to the family and protecting her home, I'm sure the instinct will come out to protect; but that is with any dog.
My male is Blue Gotti Bloodline. Though he looks big and mean, he is super gentle and sweet. I've come across chihuahua's that were more aggressive than any pits I've met.
Its the owner, not the dog that makes them mean!

I have a pitbull named Scout. He's black with a white patch on his chest & on the tips of his feet. He's my very best friend in the world. He's so gentle & loving. He has a deep bark that sounds threatening to people who may not know him, which would make him an outstanding guard dog IF he didn't lick every living soul to death that he came near, stranger or not!
He loves to play with ropes & tennis balls, sit pretty for treats, & snuggle up with me & my boyfriend in bed at night (even tho he knows he isn't supposed to be on furniture!) He is SO loyal that I cannot even take a shower without him laying right there on the bathroom rug. He gets along PERFECTLY with my Catahoula/golden retriever mix & has NEVER had any problems with other dogs & he's not even neutered.
With that being said, the only EVIDENCE that my pit bull is purebred is Scout, & he leads me to believe that pit bulls ARE sweet & misunderstood. they're like children — product's of their raising. & if anyone tried to destroy MY DOG, they'd have to destroy me first, & I don't see that happening.
Some people look forward to the day the US destroys pit bulls, & I look forward to the day they realize how wrong they are. It would be like a doggie holocaust, destroying a certain race (breed) because of misconceptions!

I too have a pitbull and she is the cutest, most easy going dog I have ever had. People give them a bad name. A dog does what you train them to do. My fur baby is very intelligent and she loves to please. She listens to verbal and responds to non verbal commands. She is my cuddle buddy, and my emotional support dog. I find that Pitbulls are Very easy to train. She loves attention and a good old fashion belly rub. If you love kisses they will slob you down.
They are called Velcro dogs, because they literally have to lean on you, lay on your feet or sit on your lap and they’ll follow you everywhere in the house. When it comes to loyalty they are hands down loyal. They love children because they can run play and act goofy with them. One day while walking my dog a lady and grandchild pull up to the light. The boy asked if my dog is a red nose pitbull and I replied yes. His grandmother asked “aren’t you afraid of that dog’? I looked at her like she had three heads. I told her no, I’m not afraid of my dog. That’s when I had to educate her. The light changed and she drove off with a new respect for pits. For those of you who were told that pitbull ‘s are vicious, don’t believe everything you hear. Yes, they are muscular and strong, But they are also silly and playful.

Another point: Even if cities and towns haven’t banned pits, many property owners have, so the effect has been similar. It just has added to the difficulty of owning a pit bull; hince, more have been abandoned. It’s ashame this has happened to what is probably one of the best breeds of dog on Earth.

I’ve owned a male pit for 13 years. What an extraordinarily great animal! I recommend 30 minutes of daily exercise due to how muscular they are. Also, I don’t leave mine alone with another person for even a minute except with vets or vet techs; because it seems many people have unhealthy ideas about how to play with pits, i.e., slap them back and forth across their muzzle, etc.–negative conditioning. Furthermore, many other dogs of a myriad of breeds, ages and sizes, as well as both sexes, have gone for my dog’s throat for no apparent reason; so I’ve had to watch out for that. I’ve read scientists believe pits tolerate pain better than other breeds which could be why they’ve been fought so much. My dog scared an intruder we had witless! I could not ask for a better dog, and I’ve hardly had to train him! I’ve heard many stories like mine. This leads me to think pits have been wrongly maligned!

I tent to agree that smaller are much more aggressive, I have been around no less than 6 pits on a daily basis for the last 3 years and besides 1 biting another (this was an isolated event that only happened 1 time) they have always been very sweet. I have been bitten by 3 Malteses 1 silky terrier (about the size of a maltese) and 1 Chihuahua. And a lab if you count my grandmother’s dog that used to grab my hand and pull me outside to throw a stick. My GF and I were walking her dog (Staffordshire Terrier) while camping and a Chihuahua ran out and bit our dog, she never bit back and only jumped and tried to get away.
I think people bash breeds considered to be vicious only because they are bigger than the small breeds. Get hit by a smart car at 50mph and your going to buff it out, get hit by an 80,000lb semi at 50mph and your probably going to die. Put the same amount of fight in a small dog as a big dog and the big big will do more damage.

I am fostering a pit now. He’s extremely loving. My Chihuahua’s attack him just for walking by him. He gets and runs to his kennel. Not one time has he even tried to bite them back. If there’s an aggressive bread it’s the chihuahua and I own two. Lol

I have two pit bulls. One male and one female (brother and sister). They have such a loving, gentle heart and are absolute delights to be around. People expect pit bulls to be such visious dogs and we always here about how they mauled an intruder, but that’s a pit bull. They feel the need to protect there family no matter the cost, but people see it as the dog was in the wrong. Both my pit bulls feel the need to make sure I’m alright at all times, I can’t even go to the bathroom without them following me. They are spectacular dogs to have and are very loving. People need to realise that the pit bull name doesn’t always mean a vicious, aggressive dog that hurts people.

Most people don’t know what their talking about. I own a Pit-Bull her name is Bella. She was originally my son’s, Eric. I kept her for him and feel in love with her a d he ended up giving her to me.She is so sweet & loving, and so special, my son passed away at 31 last year, and I’m so happy to have her. Just think how many pits are in the world, all of them are not natural born killers.Believe Bella will let my sisters little chi make her walk the line. But, believe me if someone were to try to hurt her family, there would definitely be blood, but doesn’t everyone want a dog like that ?

You have to be as ignorant as you sound, pit bulls are by far the most loyal and protective dogs in the world. You are just as stupid as the idiots that gave pits the bad rep they usually get. I’m sure you own a cat or probably a gold fish. Well let me know how well ur cat or gold fish protects u if ever u are attacked by an intruder.
Pits can be the most loving creatures alive and one of the very few animals that will give its own life to protect its master or family member from harms way. That gene of courage and loyalty that is hard wired into their DNA is why idiots choose to make these dogs mean and viscous in order to fight them, because no other dog has the heart that pit bulls possess. These wonderful dogs are willing to give their own life to prove their love, loyalty, and pride for their master, and is why they make such wonderful pets for any family willing to show them affection and give them love, but is also why these dogs can be turned into vicious killing machines when raised by the wrong person.
Even when mistreated and beaten these wonderful dogs still want nothing more than to please their master and gain pride, so when all they have been trained to do is kill and be vicious, and being aggressive has been taught what is right and is what is expected from the master, this pit bull will be willing to give its life to be as vicious and mean as possible to prove its loyalty to it’s owner and because the pit bull has more heart, courage, and determination to prove itself to its master than most other types of dogs, is why when mistreated, trained or raised to be vicious can be one of the most dangerous dogs of all breeds and is why they have been giving such a bad rap.
Any dog can be raised to be mean and vicious, we just don’t hear about it as much because sadly the pit bull is one of the most widely used breeds in this manner due to dog fighting thanks to the IGNORANT low life scum who find this kind of CRUELTY amusing.
On the other hand pit bulls can also be trained to be the safest and most loving breeds on earth and can be trusted more than any other breed of dog and probably more than most humans.
Think about it like this, any dog willing to chase after and go up against a 500 pound wild bore with razor sharp tusk on command, all while displaying amazing courage and heart, and all to prove its loyalty and dedication , and if need be will give its own life for its master.
In my opinion, you can’t ask for a better animal….

A "Pit Bull" is a term for a few different type of breeds that fall under that umbrella, called "Pit Bull Types."
There is no such thing as a pure bred "pit bull", as stated. There is an American Pit Bull Terrier, but that is not the only breed that people call Pit Bulls.
Good luck.

Where did you get him? Take him to a good vet. You can also send pictures to CKC and they can help you.

There's only ONE way to test for pure breed… and it's the DNA testing that is now available and is highly accurate.
