Japanese Akita vs Italian Cane Corso?

HarviRob: Akita vs Italian mastiff Cane Corso?
I've heard the Cane Corso is more protective. But the Akita is more powerful. I've always wondered.
Akita's are stronger than most mastiffs.

Cane Corso vs Akita not even in the same ballpark.
I’ve owned both breeds. And still Do.

Akita
Great looking dog.
The good - loyal.
Good with 1 owner, not the entire family.
Bad - They are unpredictable if not trained.

Cane Corso
One of the strongest dogs in the world if not number 1.
Loyal Smart Fast... No shedding like the Akita
One Corso would take out 3 Akita’s. But they are not like that nor do I even really care. Dogs are family.

Both breeds need a lot of training from an experienced owner. If you know nothing about these breeds our are inexperienced Don’t get one.

No Akita is more powerful than any Mastiff breed. While Akita's are primitive dogs and are known to be very territorial, as well as known for having an intense prey drive, none could take out a Mastiff. A Cane Corso would easily fight off an Akita with little or no problem.
Akita's are around 75-120 pounds (34-54 kg) ( males)
Mastiffs can surpass the weight of 120 easily...
When it comes to protection, either dog would do, but no dog is guaranteed to protect you if not trained professionally by a PPD trainer, which costs around $ 2500.
If you train the dog yourself, you'll have a ticking time bomb that could attack innocent people and any dog that is not well trained could easily be lured off with some food.

Between these two breeds comes down to who wants it the most. Akitas are extremely powerful (Spitz Breed) and more agile. Similar size to a Cane. Cane’s have more jaw strength but that does not always win the fight…not that one should be fighting dogs…take an American Akita…I’d put my money on the Akita. They were bred to fight. Cane’s as much as I love them are not fighters.

Every dog with enough stamina and weight from 50 kg has a chance of beating a much heavier dog. Heavy weight is never a guarantee. Otherwise, pit bulls would never be able to harm bigger dogs which is very often the case.

I don’t allow my Akita to fight other dogs but despite my effort, he has been a few times attacked by other dogs. Until he was stopped by me, he had always the upper hand. Even against mastiff type of dogs. Against an Ovcharka or a Tosa Inu, I wouldn’t put my money on my Akita but he is definitely not a potential victim. Very few dogs could take him unharmed.

I have gone to training classes for a number of years. I do this, despite that my dogs were are well trained, just because they loved the classes.
There were several people that I encountered who had Akita’s and were experienced trainers. All of them had bought their Akita’s when they were about eight weeks old. Unfortunately, they could not control their dogs.
If you have lots of muscle and lots of training experience, perhaps you can cope with an Akita.

Anyone with experience with the Akita breed or Corso breed knows two things. The weight doesn’t equal the strength and the intensity of the game is different with each dog. Akitas have very thick skin, intense power and can be fierce. Corso is also a very fit and fierce dog. Being a mastiff relative means nothing many huge dogs are cumbersome and worthless fighters yet large and strong. You must find a dog you bond with and it will protect you out of loyalty. Both breeds are good solid and athletic dogs.

If you're planning on owning one of these dogs, you also need to know that if your dog bites or mauls someone, your homeowner's insurance will not cover it, they will cancel your policy and you will not be able to get homeowners insurance while you have the dog. A sad fact, but true.

Akita wins every single time. Canes weren’t bred to fight dogs they don’t have the same agility. I’ve personally seen this match up unfortunately a couple times, Akita wins every time, Akita pounce like a cat which is confusing to the big mastif and the fury an Akita brings is second to only very few dog breeds. The only other dogs that go as hard as an Akita with another dog would be an Alabi, Kangal or any dogs trained to be game. But as far as natural, like these two run into each other in a dog park- no question Akita wins every single time. I know there’s a bunch of CC owners that will be in disbelief but again I’ve seen it in person multiple times- an Akita is no question unequivocally the canine more prepared to for dog on dog mortal violence .
