Q: Newfoundland or Great Dane?
I want a dog that will follow me around. Do Newfoundland dogs just sleep all day and night or do they actually move?
That's not the reason why I want a dog. I have two, but my Jack Russell just ignores me all day lol, unless I have food or a leash. I want a more people-oriented dog, Jack Russells are pretty independent with a few exceptions.

Newfs are a working breed lol. Those are those big guys that go out there and save people in the ocean...of course, they move!
Both will follow you. Newfs I hear are very family-oriented (to the point where if you give them away they will be more upset than most dogs).
It depends on you. If you aren't a fan of fur then get a dane. Newfs have that gorgeous double coat that can't be shaved (or it won't grow back right)

I dunno about Newfoundland but my best friend got a Great Dane puppy about 4 months old a while ago, dogs now 3, and he's huge named Rufus and he's already so big. when he stands he's as tall as her and she's 5 foot 3. big boy! and he's still not grown all the way.
if you do get a great dane you will have health risks when they are older more likely...but just like any dog, you need to feed them tons and tons of food and they take big poops lol. I and her meet up cuz she's a block away from me and we go walking 2 or 3 miles in the morning with Rufus for exercise but it doesn't stop there, she does another 2 miles after dinner with him and plays ball with him after school while we do homework.
just be prepared for a lot of work. and any dog will follow u around if you are the one that feeds them and cleans up after them, plays with them, etc.

Newfs will be couch potatoes if you let them but it's really not a good thing. Newfs are a *working* breed. They are designed to work and their spirit really shines when they're working. They like to pull, they enjoy obedience training, they retrieve, they swim. While not high-energy dogs, they are dogs who really should get out and move their bodies to keep it in shape. There is nothing like an out-of-shape 120+ pound dog laying on your sofa all day long. It's just not a healthy thing. Newfs need to get up and move just like we do but like most people, given the opportunity, it's just easier to loaf around.

Depends. I know newfies who love to sleep over A/C vents all day but come alive in the water.
I also know newfs who do agility and are "velcro newfs"
It depends on the dog -- look to the parents to get a feel for if a newf will be the a/c vent dog or the agility dog or in between

are you ready to carry a drool rag with you?
Many dogs follow you around...that is really not a good reason to have a dog or to make a decision on two breeds.
