Just Bells: I have a question I need help with.
If I buy a Caucasian Ovcharka, will it guard my family? If I don't introduce him to people and keep him in a dark room, will it make him more protective???
I don't have enough money to hire a trainer...I figure I can do it myself. The breeder is terrific...they breed specifically for the color of the coat and cuteness...

The idea of keeping him isolated from people and in a dark room is not good. This is about the worst approach I have ever heard of anyone taking with their dog.
A dog will be protective with family when they bond with you and know that you love them, please consider any dog you get as a member of your family and treat them with respect.

To help a dog better protect the family, I have found that if someone comes, overtake the dog to another room. Once the company leaves you can bring him/ her out socialize the dog only with close family members and friends don't allow anyone to give the dog treats besides yourself or your immediate family ie spouse and children!! Do not keep the dog locked away from any socialization it will only make him or her aggressive in a negative way!!!

For a Caucasian Ovcharka to guard you, this is what you must do – nothing. This breed will instinctively guard their property, including people, animals, and possessions. Don't lock any dog in a dark room without human contact unless you want that dog to kill you one day. Try it with a human being and you'll get the same result. Unless you have A LOT of experience in handling giant guardian breeds, DIY isn't a wise approach with a Caucasian. But if you do, I'd highly suggest positive reinforcement techniques. If you control the food and are consistent with training, your dog will already understand you're in charge. You don't want to scare and cause pain to any dog as a means of training, and particularly not one that could rip you limb from limb when they grow up. Any breeder that claims to breed Caucasians for cuteness and color is probably on too many prescription drugs. They are a beautiful breed, but cuteness is not what their breed has been designed for.
With a Caucasian, your focus is going to be less on keeping its guard up and more on socialization. They are naturally suspicious around strangers, so if you EVER want to be able to invite company over, you'd better get your dog used to meeting people it doesn't know when it's a puppy. While off of your property, this is less of an issue, as the Caucasian typically doesn't feel the need to guard territory that isn't 'theirs', but if you don't socialize your dog, this breed might decide the house is under attack when the mailman comes, and they are perfectly capable of busting through your front door.
I figured that these questions were meant ironically, but some people actually have this kind of idea, so I thought I'd answer seriously.

Bells, you know that a Caucasian Ovcharka is useless as a watchdog unless it is mixed with pit bullz and chiwawa – pit bullz are super scary and chiwawas bite a lot of people, so you need that mix to make a designer watchdog.
; )
As far as reporting – who knows? People behind a computer screen find themselves inflated with imaginary power and the ability to wreak TD havoc – poor schmucks! I'd hate to be that delusional . . .
I never gave trolls a second thought, really – there was an obvious one a few months back who copied a few regulars' accounts – but it didn't bother me until I myself was accused of being a troll – want to get me riled up? Tell a lie about me!
I have exactly 1 account. Have had it for a few years now, didn't use it so frequently at first. I barely have time for this one – who has the time to make multiples?? As far as seeing who has reported you – meh. I have enough drama in my real life – no point in getting all fussy over internet slights and such.
EDIT: cjrossi has a good idea – people who are too thin-skinned to be here get all bent out of shape over TDs, and it's not constructive in the slightest – people can gain up on others, and people who love to make trouble just TD everything they see – it's too arbitrary.

I would advise keeping him on a really short chain, and feed him nothin' but raw meat laced with a little ginpowder… that'll get you a guard dawg in NO time! You don't need no fancy dawg trainers to accomplish this! ;-)
One account only here. I have nothing to hide. If I have something to say, I'll say it. I give TDs to inappropriate, uninformative answers, and I will report them if they are offensive or dangerous.
I haven't gotten a VN in a long time >knocks wood<. But I have my TD faries that follow me like a fan club.
The one recent TD that DID hurt me was when Launi asked about our worst dog experience, and I wrote about the death of my 2 ♥ dogs, Holly and Jay. Someone (and I have a pretty good idea WHO it was) was heartless enough to TD my answer, and it was a HARD answer for me to even write; even years later, thinking about those 2 days in my life can (and often do) bring me to tears. I think I had the only TD in that thread.

I have a question I need help with.

Only if you buy him a security uniform and boots.
If I dont introduce him to people and keep him in a dark room, will it make him more protective???
Yes, because then he will need to wear sunglasses. If you get him those reflective ones, it will make him look more official.
I dont have enough money to hire a trainer…I figure I can do it myself. The breeder is terrific…they breed specifically for color of the coat and cuteness….OMG
His coat color is important. You need to be careful to get the right color security uniform, so its color does not clash with his coat.
Will people ever learn?
No. :o)
I have not noticed a lot more reporting or TDs. I have seen some new people grumbling about the "chatting". Personally, I only report the crazies, and I dont particularly want to hear from them, so I prefer to remain anonymous.
I dont have the coordination to maintain multiple accounts. :o)

Lmao. Every time I see an Ovcharka question I groan aloud.
My favorite is…
OMG! My dog just bit the neighbor!!! I don't know why! He's never bitten me! The boy pulled his tail. Could that have made him bite?
or
OMG my chi/poo/cocker/foo foo dog is sick! What could be wrong? He's 2.2lbs at 3 years old and I got him at 5 weeks! OMG! If he dies will my parents buy me a new one!?!!?
I haven't had any reporting on my part. I've gotten quite a bit of thumbers lately though.
I think someone mentioned this before…would you like it if Y/A make a change to their website where you can go and see every single person that reported you?
– Absolutely. I bet the rate would go down significantly!!
For every 100 accounts…how many actual people are behind it? 20 – 25…since most of them have multiple accounts?
– I'd say 20. It's the same way in the baby names/parenting section.
How many of you have more than 5 accounts?
– I only have one. :)
Ideas
– I think you should be able to see thumbers. Positive or negative. I think if you report, your account should be unable to do so again for 48 hours. I think if you're found to falsely report, your account should be closed and they should trace your computer and block you from Y!A permanently.

Locking them in the dark is useless he will just curl up and sleep. The best way is to chain him to the floor and offer a treat just beyond his reach. Works great until the 180lb dog tears the chain out of the floor. Home repairs $ 10,000, hospital visit for me $ 5,000, having a big evil devil dog priceless.
It would be wonderful if the yahoo police would at least review the accounts that keep falsely report the same person over and over, better yet stop this multiple address crap.
Alas this will never happen but what the heck I love to get violation notices, I save them to open with my morning coffee for a good early morning laugh. I like to start my day with a laugh.
I think all of us have certain little immature people that couldn't handle the truth in a question, or didn't like the name we picked out for their new baby doggie. (what is wrong with FRED)
I stick with one ID since I am mature enough to confront my problems without hiding behind fake accounts. Of course having a real life helps.Oh well I guess we will just have to wait for them to grow up

When you are ready to have pups please let me know as I want one also for protection. If you make up a contract I promise to keep the dog in a dark room also..Training only if I have the time..
I was e-mailed last night from another regular contact that was reported again..Sad,that she asked a legit question and it got reported.
Who these spineless people are that go on reporting just to hurt someone is disgusting..We are all here for one reason and that is to help and sometimes ask an off the wall question for fun but that should'nt get reported..If your gonna attack people than say who you are and quit hiding behind the damn computor..
I want to know who the so called trainer is with at least 10 accounts!!!…Speak up or forever hold your piece…
