Mendy C: How do I sell dachshund puppies for the first time?
Hello, I have a female chocolate dachshund and a cream and white male dachshund and they both have papers. They are going to have puppies together and this is my first time selling puppies and I don't know how to get papers with the puppies and good stuff like that.
Please help me out with this.

You should know all of this BEFORE breeding. You need to register the litter with the AKC. Both parents need to be AKC registered to do this. You can go online to their website https://www.akc.org/

You should have a mentor, ask them. They will answer all of your questions. Usually, each pedigree is about $25 I think. As for the price of the puppies see what other people sell these breeds for and go somewhere in the middle.

I understand as myself I have just started in the breeding of mini dachshunds our dachshunds are not registered, all you need to do is make sure they are vaccinated and microchipped wormed every 2 weeks and you can sell them at 8 weeks old, its all a learning curve SCY , I am having trouble selling my mini dachshunds with them being 12 weeks, we have to start somewhere ;) it will all work out.

To sell your dachshund puppies (age of 8 weeks not before) try advertising in the local newspaper, on some pets websites, etc. If they are show dogs maybe there are show dog websites you can sell them on.
Congratulations on the puppies and good luck!

Oh, that's too bad. If both your dachshunds have papers, do the breeders you bought them from know you are breeding?
And if the breeder sold you your dogs they sold them for a reason. If your dogs were the cream of the crop they would have kept them.
Honestly, if you don't know about getting the puppies registered you shouldn't be a breeder.

Ask your mentor. What kind of papers? Continental Kennel Club? Then the papers are garbage. American Kennel Club papers are better. Are they champions? They should have been before you bred them, but if they aren't, eh, your price just dropped a substantial amount. Personally, I wouldn't pay someone more than $ 100 for a purebred from a garbage registry. Even then, I would think twice about supporting a backyard breeder.
As for what another poster said about selling puppies at a festival, don't. You want the people to come to your home first and fill out a contract with them. It really should include a spay/neuter clause if you aren't selling show dogs. You also want to check out THEIR home to make sure it is suitable for the puppy.

A few tips:
- Price the puppies at a price that has plenty of room for negotiation. You don't want to be too expensive or too cheap because either way, your customers will not be satisfied with the purchase.
- Provide as much information as possible about the puppy to interested buyers. This includes both physical and behavioral traits from their parents and from themselves from birth to current age. You want to give buyers as much information as possible about what they are buying into so that they can make an informed decision before making a purchase.
- If you have a problem with one of your pets, make sure that potential buyers know about it before they buy it.

Selling puppies is not just about your dachshund puppies. It's about the people who are going to take care of them and provide a loving home for them.
First impressions also matter in selling puppies because if a puppy doesn't look healthy or isn't taken good care of, then this could deter people from buying it because they would assume that the person who was breeding it wasn't doing their job properly.

Your pups are not worth more than $ 25.
You are a BYB, you have not proven that your dogs are of breeding quality.. etc., etc., etc.
Just concentrate on finding good homes.
You need to apply for litter registration from the AKC, then you must sell all the poorly bred pups with limited registrations.

I am shocked myself at the answers here. I am not a breeder but have really enjoyed having several litters of pups with my female dachshunds. I did sell them for some money to try to pay back my cost of the female. But to talk trash about being awful puppies is pitiful.
I had papers to offer the last couple of litters and nobody really wanted them but they paid $500 each. I am selling the ones I have for 600 and people think that is cheap. I do have papers available. However, they are a mix.
The females are AKC and the male happened to be a CKC. Therefore the registration has to be CKC. But I can assure you they are not disgusting and I’m not trying to compete with the breeder. I plan to have a female fixed in about a month.

The dam and the sir are papered. Doesn’t seem to me that the Dachshund parents are completely worthless, therefore, the pups wouldn’t be either. Most smart people have a preference for what kind of dog they add to their FAMILY.

I honestly don't know much about the papers for them, but I know that the best time to sell your dachshund pups is at a fair that you might have? Or a Festival, parade, some time like that when a BUNCH of people is there. Don't sell them for much, but make them kind of cheap…it'll be an offer they won't be able to pass up!!

I understand your questioning. I too have dachshund's. My female just had her first litter and I'm not sure how to go about selling them. I would have never imagined that some of these answers that you were given would be given so rudely. Sorry, people I am not as "smart" about papering dogs as you are and nowhere near as "smart" as you in the breeding field. Have you ever thought that some people are "new" to this???
Maybe I should have bought a book and read up on my dogs before I got them from the abusive people that had them in the first place. Or maybe I should have thought first about " getting papers" for them. I want to sell my puppies too..they are not champions nor are they registered yet, but I'm sure that there are people out there that just want a precious companion as I did and just want a good healthy dog. Please give people like us a break and give us some answers without the sarcasm.
