Today it's not easy to find a reputable Caucasian Shepherd (Caucasian Ovcharka) breeder in the U.S. Only a few breeders stay in this business for a long time. Some well-known breeders of the past are no more active.
Lately, several new names have come out. It gives hope that the magnificent Caucasian Mountain Dog will become more common and popular in this country.

She breeds home-security Caucasian Shepherd Dogs in accordance with World Canine Organization (FCI) Breed Standard #328. It’s a heavy type of dog that some people call the Russian bear dog.

The breeder is sure that Caucasian Shepherds are not for the first-time dog owner and due to their size and natural aggression she will not place them with an inexperienced owner.

Thank you for this page! This is an amazing dog breed, but it should only go to homes with several important characteristics- such as a closed backyard and probably previous dog experience, as it is not an easy dog for a first-time owner.
We actually used this page to get in contact with Asgard Caucasians who helped us review the information on this page, which hopefully anyone interested in this fantastic breed can use as a reference before they look to welcome a caucasian puppy to their home.
If you or anyone of the breeders mentioned have additional info we should add, especially that we can provide for interested first-time owners, please get in touch with us!

The highest healthy weight we have
seen the Male Caucasian Ovcharka
reach is 220 pounds. Our CO is 190 lbs
at 5 years old. We love hiking and she hikes with us.us. She is active and healthy. There are a very large number of healthy CO dog breeders who have CO’s way over 110. Most range from 150 to 180 pounds. We bought our female from De Brailita Kennels in Romania. They have very healthy CO’s that easily reach 150 to 190 plus. Jozo dogs are large & healthy. Atlanta smotky and many more all have healthy happy 150 to 220 pound CO dogs. Martha Reyes in Oklahoma has CO dogs that I believe top out at 140 to180 . She runs them miles every day. They are also healthy!

Hello all,
My wife and I have had mastiffs for years, sadly they have all passed now. We currently have a maremma and american bulldog and are quite attracted to the Caucasian Shepherd breed.
I am searching for the truth on the average size of these dogs. I’ve heard that there are varieties in the breed regarding size and type, however I have read that the Georgian type is the larger and preferred type. That said, many owners are saying their dogs are usually around 200 pounds yet I am reading males can be around 110 pounds. This is quite a gap in size variation and I am wondering if this is all the same breed.
Thank you.

You are right, there is too much incorrect information regarding Caucasian Shepherd (Caucasian Ovcharka) online. Please view the official standard of the Caucasian Shepherd Dog by the World Canine Organization (FCI).
