Pet Girl And More!: what kind of dogs GUARD chickens?

Dogs raised with poultry will usually send up an alarm if the stock is threatened. It is important to remember dogs need to be introduced to chickens when they are little. The adult chickens will not tolerate any chasing of a young puppy and will put it in its place. That respect will prevail over the dog's lifetime.

Every chance you get, it is suggested you take the pup with you when you are doing any poultry choirs. All the time every day and when the puppy does something correctly reward it.

Once that dog is an adult it will feel the chickens are theirs and protect them. You can't just go buy a big dog and expect it to guard the birds.

It is possible to train a dog to not chase chickens, but it's difficult because they love to give chase. It's their natural instinct. That being said, keep in mind that if you're wanting a guard against other dogs, it's rare for a male to stand against a female, especially if the female is in heat. So a female guard dog would be wiser.

If want to guard chicken against wildlife, a German Shepherd is a smart choice, because they're so intelligent and loyal. And also territorial.

Any breed like husky, lab, retriever, or any other mischief living breed will just wanna chase instead of protect.

The person who said dogs will kill chickens regardless clearly knows next to NOTHING about dogs. I have experienced dogs who live peacefully and some even guard chickens. I've seen and lived it.
