Our New Caucasian Mountain Dog puppy?

Well I happened to stumble onto a website and found a breed I was interested in. The breed is a Caucasian Mountain Dog. I wasn't really looking for a pet at the time,but, hey I found myself looking for a puppy. After 3 weeks of search a found a kennel that had a litter of that particular breed and they are a excellent service. I've never seen more devoted people to there dogs in my life. Well I ended up with a 6-week old female Caucasian Mountain Dog puppy I decided to name Datvi. Well she is a handful and although I am getting advice from the kennel I thought I should ask other owners about there experiences with a puppy so that we can have a happy little puppy Datvi.

I'm very concerned with the fact that you got her at 6 weeks of age! Pups shouldn't be taken from their mother until AT LEAST 8 weeks!!!! The time between 6-10 weeks is crucial for puppies, because they learn to socialize with their littermates and they get important natural antibodies from their mother! A puppy taken from her littermates so young could result in a sickly, nervous puppy, though you may not see it at first. I would ask the breeders about this!

Now here are some pointers. I got my puppy about 2 weeks ago, so the best thing I can tell you is that you will learn better from trial and error than from anything anyone can tell you!!!! Training starts from day 1, because your puppy will be watching your every move to learn how you act and what you are doing. You will find that the puppy will follow you around for the first few weeks until she learns your behavior and becomes more independent. She will also try to establish pack order in your family, and you must make sure that she is at the very bottom of the pack. If you see that she is especially dominant over someone, have that person feed her and take her out, ect.

I recommend puppy obedience classes, because they are great for socialization, and of course, obedience! Don't take your puppy out to public places until after she has all of her shots! Thats very important, because it's very easy for a dog to pick up viruses and infections. When you take her to vet, carry her in and out. Again, many sick dogs pass through the vet's office, so be very careful.
I reccomend crate training as a great way to housetrain your puppy. When using a crate, do it very gradually, don't just shove your puppy in there and leave for a few hours.
Lastly but most importantly, give her lots of love!!!!! Let her know that you really care about her, and that she has a great home.

be very patient with the pup. She's only a pup and things like potty training and tricks dont normally come as quick as you would like them too. I have 7 dogs the youngest one being about 7 months up to about 3-4 years old. Patience is a virtue with any animal. *And dont forget to take time to play with her! :)
