But in a purely inquisitive stance, I have a question about dog fighting and the breeds used.
Everyone totes the APBT as the "super dog" of the fighting circuit. And of course, there is no doubt, that if properly abused and negative behavior reinforced... that the dogs are dangerous. But I don't believe that they are the "one and all" of the fighting dog kingdom. Caucasian Shepherds are lauded for their hardiness, and viciousness, as well as size.
I'll just stop there, I'm just curious if anyone knows of a dog breed that is superior in this alleged "tenacity", and overplayed agility of the APBT. Again, I LOVE my dogs, and all the others out there in the world, and see them as pure souls. I do not condone dog fighting, I don't find it amusing or consider it in any way a "sport". People who are caught doing it should be thrown into a room with red flag case dogs to see what it's like on the receiving end.

Bull Terrier, Ca De Bou, Tosa Inu, Akita Inu, AmStaffy, Kerry Blue Terrier, and AmPittie.
Those were some of the most commonly used, agile, dog breeds. Other dog breeds that weren't as agile but were used were the Bulldog, Dogo Argentino, Fila Brasileiro, Shar Pei, and Dogue De Bordeaux.
There are hundreds of dogs that were used in dog fights, those were just the most common ones and some, the most powerful ones. Boxers, AmPitties and Bull Kuttas, as well as Alano Espanols, are still very popular breeds in dogfighting history.

APBT are the best fighting breed on earth. Boebeols suck at fighting and wouldn't last even 15 minutes in the pit with game dogs. There is a good reason that professionals only use this breed, and the gameness is the reason. No serious dogman would ever use a Caucasian Shepherd. Bully Kutta, Gull Terr, and Tosa are the only other serious fighting breeds. People get caught up in dog size and usually get shamed when their 200lb cur is running from a dog that weighs 30kg.

I have spent considerable time in Central Asia and Eurasia. the advantages/disadvantages that come when you r trying to engage the locals into a more meaningful conversation on current conflicts – is that they more often than not drag you into the only social gathering – dogfighting. so yes, i have seen a few fights in n around the area.
I am seeing the names of two jap fighting dogs tosa n akita mentioned here along with the pakistani bully kutta. throw in the light boned akbash, the big boned kangal from turkey/PUK… central asian ovcharka n caucasian ovcharka from Eurasia n the mother of them all, the tibetan mastiff – n you have a neat line of big dogs that mop floors with APBT, Am Staff, bull terrier, gull dong or the likes. few lesser known dogs like sage koochie, or sarplaninacs are deadly too.
the advantages that come naturally to these breeds are – they are tough, weathered, big boned, have plenty of stamina, n are heavy. a pit might go on biting around, but if a kangal snaps its jaws on it, the pit seldom manages to break that. they are spirited yes, but not sufficiently heavy or big.
Finally – dogs are as good or as bad as their owners. In central Asia, dogfighting is a way of selective breeding. the winner gets to breed becoz the offsprings are expected to be of a tougher stock. the fighting dogs are not more than 2 yrs of age. n there is seldom a dog death. more pits die in the USA in the underground dogfights.
