Q: How much does it cost to get a Doberman Pinscher's ears cropped?
I'm getting a Doberman Pinscher in a couple of months and I'm planning ahead... I was wondering how much it costs to get their ears cropped...and how long does it take for them to heal.
I am not against ear cropping and tail docking... I am sorry.

Cropping/docking Dobermans is in fact purely cosmetic. There are no health benefits to either. Some people say it's so they can hear better, or so they don't get ear infections, that's baloney. Their ears were cropped originally to make the breed look more fierce, and the tail was docked so that they couldn't be grabbed by their tail and held back from attacking. The ears may have been cut for that same reason, but I haven't found any definitive data on that.
As for how much, the lowest I've heard is $ 250, $ 300-$ 400 is pretty common. Don't go somewhere because they are the cheapest place, that's the worst thing you can do! You do NOT want to gamble with the ears, if the vet does a bad job, you just ruined your dog. Also, make sure you get from a good breeder because there are many deadly genetic diseases Dobermans carry.
I purchased by Dobie from a breeder who already had the ears done, and had several grown litters who were cut by the same vet so I could see the outcome. My Dobie is show-cropped, so it's the longest crop there is. It's also called long cropped, which is the traditional cut, it doesn't look bad, it's correct for the dog. It's a lot of work, but well worth it in the end. It took 6 months of posting her ears every other week, so if you're not up for the amount of work, forget about show cropping or cropping period. Just like getting a bad crop job, if you don't post them, you're going to ruin the ears.
You should have the Dobie cropped no later than 12 weeks old. After that, it's pointless because the cartilage has already formed in the flopping/downward position. They are usually healed within a week or two of being cropped.
I posted her ears once they were strong enough to stand up without a piece of tape between the ears to hold them up.

A responsible Doberman breeder, in countries where cropping is legal, crops the ears before the puppy is placed in its new home. If the breeder you found does not crop before placing the puppies then look elsewhere for a breeder.

There are several different types of crop styles for Dobies [Show, Working, Medium], so the cost will vary.
I would recommend contacting your Dobie's breeder for referrals.
By the way, get ready to get hit with the "DONT CROP EARS THATS SO ABUSE OMG WOOD U LYK IT IF U HAD THT HAPPEN 2 U?! DIDNT THINK SO! ITS ABUSE AND CRUEL AND SO.."
Luckily, it's NOT illegal in the USA, where thank GOD dogs are still my property. PETA and Bunny Huggers put the procedure to be illegal, I bet they wish they hadn't after the dog's tail got caught in the cart...

Ear cropping is done between 8-16 weeks of age
It cost about $ 500 for the procedure
You would have to clean the incision site 2x daily for 10 days, then the stitches are removed and the posting begins. Posting can take anywhere from 1-12+ months for the ears to stand which is done every 10 days by the vet's office that did the procedure, which is $ 15 every 10 days
Not all breeders crop the ears before they go to their new homes. Here in New England, it is up to the owners to decide whether or not ears are cropped yet the breeder will recommend experienced qualified vets and help the new owner with the care if needed.
BTW it is an owner's decision whether the pup will be cropped or left with natural years. Neither is a wrong choice
Show crops take the longest to stand. There is also the pet crop which is medium in length and also a military crop which is the shortest

Not always true! What you like and you breeder likes can be two different things. You may decide that you dont want to crop due to the after care now you have a dog that you have to post the ears. The crop should be up to you then also your dog wont be yours for awhile and it has bonded to someone else. I prefer to get my own dogs ears cropped.

Talk to a vet they will give you exact costs. But usually, the cost range is $ 200-$ 400. If you get the show crop (medium crop) which I highly recommend it's about $ 200-$ 300. The long crop is the more expensive and that one doesn't look very good at all. The healing process, it takes two weeks for the ears to heal but it can take 2 months to a year to get them trained to stand. make sure you take care of them this is not an in and out process.
BTW, more dogs have died from being spayed/neutered then they have ever from ear cropping.
@Rayven you would be surprised but a lot of reputable breeders have started keeping a couple with natural ears because of how many people want to keep them floppy.

In England there is a very good reason why it is illegal to crop any dog's ears. BECAUSE IT IS CRUEL AND UNNECESSARY. You do not deserve the honour of having a dog.

Do you have your sons circumcised? That’s way worse. No reason for it other than being Jewish. They don’t even give baby pain meds. That is cruel and very unnecessary.

Don't crop the ears. It's mean and unnecessary. There is no scientific proof that cropping the ears will help with behavior and health. It's a waist of money. Let your dog be a dog. It's illegal in several countries for a reason.

it will probably cost you an extra $ 200 – $ 700 to get the ears cropped plus after care.
They will have to be taped and held up with foam or PVC pipe until about 6 – 8 months when they are done teething.

Well first off you haven't even FOUND a breeder yet so you can't say you will be getting one in a few months since it could take that long for your parents do agree to getting a dog let alone find a decent breeder willing to sell to you AND has a litter planned for this year.
As for cropping any good breeder will have it done before the pup comes home with you. Time to heal will depend on the length/style of crop and the aftercare provided by the owner.
ETA: Yeah right. In about 30 minutes you found a reputable breeder to buy from AND your parents have impressed them so much in that short amount of time of talking that you are already on a waiting list for their possible litter next year? How stupid do you think some people are?
Just me: I'm well aware of that HOWEVER any good breeder who knows the buyer wants the ears done will do so before the pup leaves.
