Q: How long will it take my 9-month-old Bichon's shaved coat to grow back?
He was a lovely fluffy Bichon but some bad matts on his legs and tummy. The groomer did not advise me that she was going to shave him completely apart from his head and tail. I have been so upset all day, I just want to know how long is it going to take for him to grow some kind of a coat?

Hmmm. I have a big dog who was shaved completely, and all of his fur was completely restored in a few months. I'd say 2-4 months.

the groomer shaved my bichon and did not tell me either. I was shocked. He had no fur at all. NO, he was not matted. His fur was longer than usual because the groomer did not cut him enough last visit and then he was gone and we could not get in. I brush him every day so he did not have matts. I will not return to this guy who is on the other side of the fence anyway. four tries and your out.
My puppy is 8 months and this is my third bichon and never had this happen before. so hoping it grows back soon.

We took our Bichon Frise to a boarding kennel for the holidays. I paid for him to be groomed by the time we return. I am so upset about my Bichon Frise haircut. I asked that he not be shaved. I kept him brushed and comb daily to prevent knots in the coat. He is one year old and he looks horrible, I paid $60.00. I think whoever cut him took a big plug out of him by mistake and tried to correct it by cutting all of his hair off, He did not smell good at all.
It's getting cold now and I must put a coat or sweater on him before taking him out. He was so fluffy and white. I'm trying my best to get over how my dog looks. I will never take him back there again. This was the Interlude spa and Kennel.

Like humans get bad haircuts, so do dogs. It shouldn't take long to grow back after all you should get your dog groomed every 2-3 months, so obviously it grows enough in between the cuts to be needed a new cut again.
FYI it wasn't the groomers fault your dog got shaved, it was your fault for not brushing your Bichon daily to prevent mattes. In order for the groomer to feel the need to shave your dog the mattes must have been very bad.

If you remember to brush your Bichon every day or another day then you should never run into a bad haircut problem like this again. Maybe take a picture of the bad shave job and hang it on your fridge to remind you to brush that puppy every day to avoid this ugly picture from becoming reality again. Good Luck and hope it grows back fast.

A dog's fur grows really quickly. The groomer shaved my Bichon completely and within a week fur was already growing back. It might take about 2-3 months for your puppy's fluffy coat to grow back.

It takes some time but it will grow back. She’ll be fluffy again don’t worry. Usually the groomers know what they do.

We have a 5 month old Zuchon (Brichon Frise and Shit Zu mix). He is called a Teddy Bear breed because of his fluffy teddy bear look. I took him into a groomer for his first TRIM and made it clear NOT to shave him. We brush him every day and he was beautiful. He just needed his behind and eyes cleaned up. The groomer admitted they misread the order and shaved him. I am so upset. Groomer stated that his hair will never be the same again, that he color is gone and he will not have the teddy bear look again because of the shave. Any advice because I am totally upset and hope she really doesn’t know what she is talking about.

He’s still a puppy. There shouldn’t be a reason for him not to get his coat again. He either has it from the beginning, or not. Is it possible to ask the opinion of some other experienced groomer?
