Q: What is the difference between a “Manchester Terrier” and a “Miniature Pinscher”? They look an awful lot alike and I was wondering if anyone could tell me the difference between the two. Answer by Bethnyc The Manchester is a British breed. They have longer noses, longer bodies with a much higher tuck and a full tail and their ears can be naturally erect. They are a medium energy dog and are used for ratting. The Mini Pin is a terrier type dog developed in Germany and they are more of a square looking dog, smaller in size (from the standard Manchester, not the toy version). and the standard calls for cropped ears and docked tail. They are a very active high energy dog. The mini pin is an older breed I believe and is usually mistakenly called a Mini Doberman which is not true. The mini pin is an older breed than a dobie and not genetically related. The MinPin is a member of the Toy Group and reach approximatly 11″ at the shoulder. Manchesters come in standard and toy. Standards are members of the terreir group and are 12-22 lbs. Toys are members of the toy group and are 7-12lbs MinPins should be square (as long as tall), Manchesters should be slightly longer than tall MinPin should have oval eyes, Manchesters almond eyes, Toy manchesters have naturally erect ears standard may be naturally erect , cropped or button ears, MinPins are a cropped breed, MinPins should have a level back while Manchesters should have a slight arch, MinPins should have a hackeny gait which would be a fault in a Manchester, Manchesters come only in black and tan while MinPins can be red or black and tan. Answer by aussie mom MIN PIN The Miniature Pinscher is structurally a well balanced, sturdy, compact, short-coupled, smooth-coated dog. He naturally is well groomed, proud, vigorous and alert. Characteristic traits are his hackney-like action, fearless animation, complete self-possession, and his spirited presence. Size -10 inches to 12 inches in height allowed, with desired height 11 inches to12 inches measured at highest point of the shoulder blades.
