I am getting either a English or a Neapolitan mastiff. which breed is more loving and affectionate which one is more likely to cuddle in bed with me or are they about the same? I would never get another breed but they do have their problems so do your homework before getting one. My first one passed away in september at the age of 6 from cancer and I now have a male that is 5 months. I can't say much more than that, because it does boil down to being an individual thing. Most Mastiffs and Neos are affectionate, but some are more keen on snuggling than others. (When I just say "Mastiff," by the way, it's referring to the English Mastiff.. They're technically just called the Mastiff, though I do often like to make it clear which dog I'm talking about by specifying "English" Mastiff. But yeah, "Mastiff" refers to the breed; "mastiff," the common noun, refers to the type, like the common nouns "hound" and "terrier" refer to types. The common noun "mastiff" refers to Mastiffs, Neapolitan Mastiffs, Bullmastiffs, so on and so forth.) So, since you can't really make a decision based on which breed would be more likely to cuddle, you'll have to seriously consider other aspects of their personalities. I mean, what is it you want in a dog? The Neo is considerably sharper than the Mastiff, if you know what I mean. Neos tend to be more domineering, suspicious of strangers, less easy-going around other dogs (particularly those of the same gender), and way more focused on guarding you (to the point that if you like having visitors, a Neo might not be a good choice for you, period). (Of course, I wanna point out two things. One, I'm talking about well-bred, well-socialized, well-mannered Mastiffs and Neos.. Poorly-bred, unsocialized and/or otherwise "defective" individuals of the breeds aren't predictable.. Two, like I said, you do have to keep in mind that all dogs are individuals, so obviously it isn't like ALL Neos are as I described, you know? Just generally speaking.) Know better?
