Q: Does anyone know when do Samoyed dogs stop growing and what is Samoyed weight chart? I have a 9-month-old Samoyed dog. It's been 4 since I had her. It's a full breed. She's from a breeder that breeds only Samoyeds, and her brothers and sisters aren't mixed. She has all the shots but I don't see her growing very much. I'm getting worried. Answer by Beth K A well-bred female Samoyed is usually between 19 and 21 inches at the withers (top of the shoulders) while a male is 21 – 23.5 inches. Weight is highly variable depending on the dog's build and condition. A general rule is that you should be able to feel the dog's ribs under the coat. If you can't, the dog is too fat. If all you can feel its bones, the dog is too thin. I have a show Samoyed pup that will be 6 months old next week. His breeder kept two of his littermates, and my pup and his female littermates all stand around 18 – 19 inches tall and weigh around 35-38 pounds. I expect them to be close to the adult height at 9 – 12 months, but they will still need to do a lot of maturing. What breeder did you get the dog from? Breeders who do not actively show or compete with their dogs tend to have oversized or undersized Samoyeds. I see some that are huge and others that look like American Eskimos instead of Sammies. What size are they? Perhaps the breeder has small dogs or has dogs that have odd growth patterns. Also, bear in mind that a puppy drastically different in size from its littermates/parents may have an underlying reason. If this is the case, have your veterinarian do a complete blood panel to make sure your puppy isn't suffering from nutritional deficiencies or problems with organ function. Small size or failure to thrive can be indicative of liver, kidney, or heart trouble. Many of these problems do not become apparent until the pup is 3 – 6 months old when the dog just doesn't grow. I have a male pup now..about 12 weeks old and is growing like crazy…if your pup is not growing your vet should check her out..sometimes a female grows more slowly than males…your vet should know and if he doesn’t you should change vets.
