Q: Are cropped Cane Corso dogs better than uncropped? What breeds has your dog been confused for? After owning one would you get another? From the same breeder? These dogs would be easily confused for Pit Bulls. I think they are in the top three best guards dogs you could own. Just the look of them is enough to stop an intruder. They are not shy in defending the home and are genuine Men Stoppers. In England, Rotties are not allowed to have their tails docked anymore and I think this is wrong. A Rottie with a big tail just looks wrong and I would hate to see the Corso's without cropped ears. Dobermans also need to have cropped ears. I think if I owned a Corso I would get another one. They look addictive. That said we are looking to get a Bullmastiff next to go with our Akita. The reason for this is about lifestyle. As a family we not that active. I do walk my dog for an hour each day but never run. I think Corsos need an owner with vast energy. I like my dogs to be calm in the house and although I want a guard dog I want one with lowish energy levels. All the best. Answer by Jennifer I have a female who has more of the Italiano bone structure in the face and body. She has a longer spine, the thicker coat with a nice sheen, and a more boxer shaped muzzle, she looks very lean because of her longer spine, but with good muscle and bone structure balance….she weighs in at 98lbs at 2yrs old. She’s absolutely lovely. Her tail was cropped before we got her which is probably good simply because she is a very enthusiastic tail-wagger. I have known of 2 Labs who have broken their tails because of being butt height even with hard furniture and getting too excited with their tails….I feel like my girl would have had similar issues if her tail were kept long. I didn’t crop her ears though. Sometimes a Cane Corso’s ears look too big or too awkward with the shape of the face. In her case, however, her ears were in great proportion. I would say most people assume they are a mastiff or pit mix I had one lady tell me my dog was a pit bull. She was adamant. She said she used to breed pit bulls and blue pitbull and brindle pitbull so the blue brindle girl I was walking was 100% pit bull. I was so stunned at this crazy lady! What about Great Danes, whippets, IG's and numerous other dogs that can be blue brindle. Crazy lady! Most people have never heard of a cane corso and are very intrigued. A lot of people assume they are the breed that killed Dianne Whipple or automatically assume this is a highly aggressive breed. I currently have four. Two are from the same breeder. I love this breed. What are the main differences between the Presa Canario and Cane Corso? Yes! I have had to tell breeders the correct pronunciation is "Cahnay" Corso. There are many people breeding these dogs for the wrong reason and even more who are breeding but haven't fully researched the breed. Like the person in some other post here who didn't even know that Cane Corsos come in two coat types. Most Corsos have "cow hair" which has an undercoat. But some lack this undercoat and have smooth hair more similar to a pit bull. These dogs are known as Sicilianos Branchiero. A knowledgeable breeder would definitely know this. It depends on the dog- I usually prefer cropped but some look great with natural ears. I've never had someone in person say anything negative about having cropped my dogs' ears. Many people ask if the ears on my dogs have been cropped- I say "yes" if they have been and that seems to be it. I'll also add that I am a petite female and I have had very few bad reactions to my dogs. Most people see me and can tell I am a responsible owner and that my dogs are well controlled and so they are not afraid. People are very curious about them. If I were a teenage boy or a large man walking my dogs I feel the reaction would be much different. It has to do with how you present yourself and how the dogs behave. Know better?
