Are Briard Puppies Expensive?

Wondering what would a Briard puppy price from a proper breeder. Briard dogs are not exactly a common dog and I couldn't find any ads to see what they sell for. We adopted a Briard Bearded Collie mix about ten years ago, and while watching the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show, we were wondering what they would cost to buy as a puppy. I've seen ads in the paper, but not for Briards. I know it will likely depend on where I am and how good the breeder is, but what have you seen them sold for before?

A guarded breed, not many byb, and as far as I know no puppy mills breeding. I would guess around $ 1500 for a pet quality dog, more for a show dog.

The Briard puppy price in the U.S. is anywhere between $1,000 and $3,000, depending on the breeder, registration papers, parents, male/female, puppy quality, etc. The average price from a breeder would be $1,600 - $1,900. The adoption cost of Briard is around $300.

Who says your dog is even that mix? The shelter is surely just GUESSING what breeds are in the dog.
$ 2K is about right for a starting price for a registered, well-bred dog. Briards are not a common breed. I couldn't find any breeders with prices, either, but I'd imagine at least $ 1,000 - $ 1,500 for a pet quality dog.

Note that "ads in the paper" are seldom reputable breeders with AKC registered animals. They're more often horrible backyard breeders lying about what breeds their dogs are. Or if they are registered that only means pedigrees are tracked - not that they're reputable. Reputable breeders seldom have to advertise their litters in the paper as puppies are reserved before they're even born!

Ads in the paper are not purebred dogs, they are mixes and they are all overpriced
Shelters only guess, your dog is some sort of collie mix and likely does not have Briard in it.

Reputable breeders don't advertise in papers. Ever. They have a waiting list for people to buy puppies before the puppies are even born. I hope you have a lot of land and sheep or goats for it to herd since Briard is a working breed and needs a job.

If you find the Briard Club of America website or go to akc.org, you can find some breeders listed there. Some Briard breeders list their puppies' prices.
