The Sharplaninac or Yugoslavian Shepherd Dog is a molosser-type mountain dog breed of the livestock guardian type that comes from the Balkan Mountains in Europe in the border area between Kosovo, Macedonia, and Albania. The documentary film that was shown on Yugoslav TV pictures the Sharplaninac shepherd protecting the sheep in the night from attacking wolves and actually killing two of the intruders.
This strong and mighty dog resembles Caucasian Shepherd that has a strong reputation of a courageous wolf killer dog.

Shar Planina (SARA) is a mountain in the southern part of Kosovo and the northwestern part of Macedonia. Šarplaninac (mak. Sarplaninec; used are also called "Illyrian Sheepdog", "Macedonian shepherd" and "Macedonian mountain dog") is a race of sheepdog originating from the Sar Mountains. The only dog that can fight with a wolf (Sarplaninac vs wolf) and a bear. Strongest dog in the world...respect
Molossian:
They used to use Collies to protect flocks from wolves. Imagine a Collie vs. a Wolf. I think this dog is great.
Ben:
That is a movie. They must have drugged the wolves.
George:
If you really think wolves can kill all dogs then you definitely must not know about Armenian Wolfhounds or Caucasian Shepherds. They kill wolves and they kill the biggest types of wolves.

Usually, this video is Caucasian.:))))
zvocnik24:
Caucasian Shepherd is not a wolf killer dog but just one of livestock guardian dog breeds, and only a few reach the 100 kg the average weight is around 80 kg. If we compare it to the largest wolf caught that weighted 82 kg its again, not a big difference. And the Caucasian dog is not very agile and it is slow compared to a wolf.

If your LGDs are not protecting flocks sufficiently, it is because you are not employing enough dogs for the job. No flock should be guarded by a sole dog. We have seen a single LGD fight off a cougar even. These LGDs are worth their weight in gold.

I think it is two Sarplaninac dogs and a man with a spear against a wolf as shown in the video. Don't exaggerate stuffs coz it's annoying.

Good it's not fun losing livestock for that people...it means those dogs are effective

Not bad, if this is even real and the wolves were actually healthy, wild wolves, but I'd like to see this dog take on a bull, horse, bear, or wild boar-like American Pitbulls can and do. There's a reason why people that match dogs against each other and against other large animals like bulls, bears, and wild boar to do battle choose the American Pitbull and why the American Pitbull is the most famous, highest prized, most popular, and most successful canine gladiator of all time that dominates the professional and legit sport of dog combat able to do more, go on for longer and push itself further than any other breed.
The American Pitbull is obviously the superior breed for combat and taking on other animals. They were bred as farm dogs that would help and protect farmers from livestock, especially the bulls (which are much larger, stronger, tougher, more aggressive, and more dangerous than any wolf). If a bull or whatever tried to attack the farmer, the American Pitbull would take it on and get it under control.
I have even seen Pitbulls take on horses by themselves. This Illyrian dog can't hold a candle to the American Pitbull breed overall. American Pitbulls are stronger, more athletic, tougher, more versatile, and are obviously greater gladiators that have been used to battle bulls and bears in gladiatorial competitions (things that breeds like whatever breed this dog has never done).

I owned a Sarplaninac. They are fierce, yes, but no match for a large, male timber wolf. The video is fixed: two Sarplaninacs against a small wolf, and probably stabbed by the man with a spear. No dog, even a Sarpla, can exceed 400 psi of BF. A wolf generates the double so is always in advantage.
