How can I get my Rottweiler to Bark at Strangers?

Q: How can I get my rottweiler dog to bark at strangers?
My rottweiler dog doesn't bark except at night (I live in a super rural area) but when strangers come over she doesn't bark and is so nice to them. I don't want a mean dog but I would like her to bark at them. She's about 9 months old and purebred rottweiler. Is it because of how young she is, or is it just her personality?

First, a breath of fresh air to read that you are happy with your dog’s nature as she is, but would like her to keep watch and alert you to unusual sounds/when someone approaches your property.

At nine months too early to give up on your Rottweiler coming into her voice and developing a natural watchdog instinct, as all dogs within a breed are individuals and while six months for characteristics to begin to show is average, it may yet happen.

When the bark response to sound/people is triggered at night, immediately praise her so she learns to associate her action with a good outcome for her, as the dog that respects the authority of and have a bond with their owners are eager to please.

Of course, when she learned that alerting is a good thing, you will also have to train an “off switch” so she knows when she has performed her task and to immediately stop when told.

Not channeled correctly with training to hush she would bark because it gets rewarded with positive attention at everything in her line of sight and would not understand if you have scolded her or became frustrated by noisy nuisance barking.

One of my dogs is the strong silent type that signals when someone is approaching by becoming alert and pointing his body in the direction of the sound, but rarely barks, whereas the other will let me know when anyone steps onto my property, long before they reach the front door. Her nature is different from his.
